Material

Peonies – other suitable flowers are roses and calla lilies.

Small leaf eucalyptus gum

Hatbox

Number 6 florist bowl

Plastic clip on guard or florist pot tape

Florist Foam

Paper

Method

1. Soak the florist foam in water and place it in the bowl. Secure it in place by placing the plastic clip on guard on top or crisscross two pieces of pot tape over the top of the foam and down on to the sides of the bowl for about 5cm.

2. Fill the hatbox almost to the top with crumpled paper.

3. Place the bowl on top of the paper and wedge extra pieces of crumpled paper around the side to hold the bowl firmly in place. The foam should sit about 5cm higher than the edges of the hatbox so the stems can be inserted into the sides of the foam.

4. Cut the flower stems to the desired length. Start at the centre and insert the flowers into the foam and position them in circles with the outer ones extending over the edges of the hatbox. Cut the foliage stems to the desired length and insert them between the peonies

5. Spray lightly with water.

This lesson is briefly explained. In the Floral Art School of Australia and International floral Design School Advanced Certificate of Floristry Course each practical lesson is fully explained in detail with measurements on how long to cut the stems and exactly where to position them with diagrams and a colour photo of each design.  There is an online step by step video showing you how to make each lesson so you can soon be creating stunning floral designs.
